The Kiribati - Kiritimati Infrastructure Project (KKIP) aims to strengthen the island’s air and road transport systems to improve safety, climate resilience, and emergency response capacity. The project focuses on four key areas:

  1. Regional Air Connectivity:
    Rehabilitation of airport infrastructure, installation of navigation and safety equipment, development of an airport website, and technical support for design, supervision, maintenance, and aviation information updates.
  2. Road Connectivity:
    Upgrading town roads, technical support for design and maintenance planning, and a road-safety initiative providing children’s motorcycle helmets.
  3. Project Implementation Support:
    Assistance for the Project Coordinating Unit, additional consultants, project vehicles, renovation of an MLPID facility, operating costs, training, and measures to address SEA/H risks.
  4. Emergency Response (CERC):
    A mechanism to quickly reallocate project funds for crisis response and reconstruction.
