Kiritimati Residents Trained to Operate New Fire Trucks

A joint team comprising three representatives from the Office of the President and two personnel from the South Australia Country Fire Service conducted a training program in Ronton last week. The initiative focused on basic operational instruction for the two fire trucks recently delivered to the island in August.
Participants included residents of Kiritimati—particularly from the Ronton area—alongside officers from the Kiribati Police Service, staff of the Ministry of Line and Phoenix Islands Development (MLPID), and Aviation personnel. This collaborative effort marks a significant step toward strengthening emergency response capacity and inter-agency coordination on Kiritimati Island.
The training was made possible through the generous support of the Governments of Australia and New Zealand, facilitated under the Pacific Island Emergency Management Alliance (PIEMA).
